Articles about Massage Therapy

The Sports Massage Program at UPMC provides athletes of all abilities the means to perform at their best. Sports massage can benefit you in many ways:

  • It helps reduce the strain and discomfort in training.
  • It restores lost mobility
  • It assists in healing acute injuries properly so those areas do not become a source of continued trouble.

Sports massage also helps reduce muscle soreness and breaks up fibrosis that binds muscle fibers to each other. This gives the athlete a more consistent higher level of training and performance.

David Sanctis is the coordinator of sports massage services at the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine. He is a member of the AMTA's National Sports Massage Team and is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
